Holistic Environments

Feng shui is the mother of holistic environments. Feng shui is literally translated as “wind and water,” referring to optimum conditions in your surroundings. It is known as the Ancient Art of Chinese Placement.

The Art of Placement in feng shui is a broad description referring to:

Location or placement of the land in relation to the landscape and surroundings
Placement of the home on the land or lot
Placement of the home or property on the street
Placement of the front door and entryway
Location of the rooms
Placement of the furniture
Placement of the design elements, art work, symbolism and landscaping features

Feng Shui considers how each of the different parts of the home or office space influences the “whole”. As an example, a weak or challenged entry way will have an impact on the rest of the home or business.

A holistic environment can be characterized by a sense of continuity and balance. Each of the rooms or areas in a home or property feels connected to the “whole”. In feng shui we understand that isolated or disparate areas in the home or business can usually be correlated to the occupant’s life experience.

It has been well over a decade since I read my first feng shui book, or took my first course and I am still continually inspired to “finesse” my living space in order to enhance the quality of my life. It is amazing how a bit of sound feng shui knowledge can awaken your understanding about how to create a holistic environment.
